When setting up an email account hosted by adire, please remember the following:

Your username will be your complete email address e.g. john.doe@example.co.uk.

Your password is likely very complex and may be difficult to type. If possible, copy and paste it.

When sending email, our server requires that outlook uses authentication. Please see the following 3 images to see how to enable this.

EU Cookie Monster

For all the website owners out there that are currently worrying about the new cookie legislation that will come into effect for all websites on 25th May 2011, do not fear.

For the moment, because a governemnt guide can’t be agreed upon, enforcement action is likely to lag far behind the date of 25th May. The problem centres on precisely how to ask user’s for permission to use cookies without a user’s browsing experience taking a nose dive.

I know that if I suddenly found myself being greated by a prompt on every site I visited asking “If it would be ok to use cookies and potentially track my browsing habits on their website” then I would quickly look for a browser addon to auto accept those prompts or ignore them completely.

Hopefully, something can be agreed at the browser level that would instead put the responsiblity on the user to change a setting on their browser, rather than the responsablity being with websites to ask every user if it’s ok if it gives them a cookie.

For all our clients, we will let you know if any updates are required for your websites, but in the short term, it looks unlikely.

So what’s the big deal about web-hosting and how can having the right host make a difference?

Everyone is different, and has different needs. Most web companies, ourselves included, offer a varied range from low to high specifications. At Adire, these are known as our bronze, silver and gold packages. But what do you do when you need something a little more personal? Well, unlike many other hosting companies, we offer bespoke hosting and like bespoke clothing, it fits.

If you are making a site with dedicated applications and a specific function then you might have to throw money away to get the features you need because they are only in high end packages. Packages which usually come bundled with a lot of features you don’t want or need. A costly error to make and not one too many can afford. For example if you need a large amount of web space but very little bandwidth, or if you want bandwidth galore but don’t require any kind of MySQL or PHP databases then you can cut down on cost and enjoy that “designed for you service” that some other companies simply don’t offer.
